Texans owner Cal McNair's head coaching search, as it enters this new phase now led by new general manager Nick Caserio, will be among the most scrutinized hires in recent history. The unusual nature of the process to this point has already managed to upset numerous factions around the NFL, and cast McNair in a challenging light. Only things went sideways, quite quickly, according to numerous sources with direct knowledge of the situation.

A mix-up on the Burnley teamsheet almost cost them their place in the competition before a ball had even been kicked in their fifth round tie - though they failed to progress anyway. Sean Dyche praised Bournemouth staff for notifying them of an administration error in the build-up to kick-off which could have seen Burnley booted out of the FA Cup. Dyche made several changes to his team, but had originally picked usual left-back Erik Pieters to start the fixture. That was until Bournemouth's head of media and communications, Anthony Marshall, pointed out that Pieters was in fact ineligible due to suspension having been booked in both previous rounds. Anthony Driscoll-Glennon was swiftly called into the starting XI at the expense of Pieters to avoid any repercussions, though as it happened Burnley were beaten on the night and eliminated anyhow.
